"Ch. d'Yquem reported 2003 as the hottest year since 1896, the previous hottest being the 1976 which provided a superb wine with excellent botrytis which is now showing at its best. Ch. d'Yquem conclude their report: ""This unusual vintage will no doubt remain a benchmark for many years to come. An extraordinary summer, ""total"" botrytis, and the sacrifice of part of the estate made it possible to harvest grapes with optimum fruit and and concentration thanks to unusually clean botrtization."" This is an atypical year, with its excessive heat and high temperatures, but it is a triumph for Pierre Lurton who came to Yquem after the harvest which was, very unusually, effected in one single 'trie', or picking. Brilliant selection in the vineyard and blending have produced an amazing orange honey nose, mixed with acacia."
94/100 pnt R.Parker The Yquem 2003 vintage is simply exceptional. The nose is sumptuous and complex. In the palate, roundness, freshness and a superb length appeal. www.yquem.fr Stunning balance and elegance, which is a feat in a year of climatic extremes. Enormous length on the palate.
